An essentially-complete version of the original game was released unofficially in 2014 as a "Tribute Edition". Fighting is Magic's core gameplay mechanics were carried over into Them's Fightin' Herds with major refinements, and its six characters are based in part on the movesets designed for the characters in this game. It was under development by a team of nine volunteers who call themselves Mane6. My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic was a cancelled fan-made fighting game inspired by the animated television series My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. That game was eventually released five years later as Them's Fightin' Herds. Not to be confused with Fighting is Magic: Premium or Fighting is Magic: Aurora. With assistance from My Little Pony character designer Lauren Faust, they created a new cast of character and setting and began development of a new game from scratch.
